USB HDD not stopping after shutdown

Hi Everybody!
I hope someone can help me, I use my Pi for mediacenter purposes, but when i shut down, my USB attached HDD won't spin down, it just keep goingu ntil I cut the power.
Is there any setting I should change to shut down the USB attached equipment after the op. system shuts down?
