HandBrake - The open source video transcoder
      Compiled for the BananaPi!

HandBrake is a tool for converting video from nearly any format to a selection of modern, widely supported codecs.

Hello Guys!

After several attemps, I was finally able to compile & install HandBrake for my BananaPi with Lubuntu!

HandBrake provides a fully working open source Video-Converter with tons of functions like:

-x264/x265(alias HEVC) support
-direct BlueRay/DVD Converting
-*.mp4 / *.mkv output format
-MultiLanguage/MultiSubtitles support
-a lot of fine tuning options for you

For me, it's the first big Compiling-Project and I'm happy to share it with you guys!

Installation Instructions:

I recommend to do all the steps via ssh(but it should work directly via Terminal too) :

so login into you banana with:   bananapi/bananapi

update all packages you have:

  1. sudo apt-get update && apt-get upgrade
Copy the Code
This will take some time, make yourself a sandwich...

Then, install these packages:

  1. sudo apt-get install subversion yasm build-essential autoconf libtool \
  2. zlib1g-dev libbz2-dev libogg-dev libtheora-dev libvorbis-dev \
  3. libsamplerate-dev libxml2-dev libfribidi-dev libfreetype6-dev \
  4. libfontconfig1-dev libass-dev intltool libglib2.0-dev libdbus-glib-1-dev \
  5. libgtk2.0-dev libgudev-1.0-dev libwebkit-dev libnotify-dev \
  6. libgstreamer0.10-dev libgstreamer-plugins-base0.10-dev libappindicator-dev libx246-dev libx265-dev
Copy the Code

Now you can choose:
You can either:

  • just install Handbrake
  • or do a fresh Compile & installation of Handbrake (recommend if you have problems with installation)

Method 1(aka. just install) :

Get my zipped Folder of HandBrake  (DOWNLOAD) and copy it to the main directory of your BananaPi (eg. " /home/bananapi ").

unzip the *.zip archive you copied and go into that folder.

then run:
  1. cd ./build
Copy the Code

and:
  1. sudo make install
Copy the Code

Then reboot!

Thats it!

Congratiulations, you have now a powerful Video-Converter for you BananaPi!

Method 2 (aka. fresh compiling & install):

  1. cd /home/bananapi
Copy the Code

Then download the source code of latest HandBrake:

  1. wget https://handbrake.fr/rotation.php?file=HandBrake-0.10.2.tar.bz2
Copy the Code

then extract it:
  1. tar -xjf rotation.php?file=HandBrake-0.10.2.tar.bz2
Copy the Code

after that, run:

  1. sudo ./HandBrake-0.10.2/configure
Copy the Code

After that, build HandBrake:

  1. cd ./HandBrake-0.10.2/build
Copy the Code
NOTE THAT THE NEXT STEP TAKES UP TO 3 HOURS!

  1. sudo make -j2
Copy the Code

If there was no error in the end, you now can run:

Thank you!
See if you can complete the last command to run...

I just want to know that whether handbrake bring virus? Because recently I read an article named "is handbrake safe"  as you can see here http://www.videoconverterfactory.com/tips/is-handbrake-safe.html which mentions that in May 2017 HandBrake get virus strike. I just brought a new computer and i do not want to it suffers from bad system corruption due to malware which happened to my old PC.
