USB WiFi Dongle Declaration

Recently many people has the question about USB WiFi adapter. I will explain the type of the USB adapter, and tell all which adapter could be used.

The chip of the most USB WiFi dongle is Realtek based. There are mainly two serial driver: 8188 and 8192.
8188cus, 8188cu, 8192 chip use the 8192 driver.
8188eus, 8188eu, 8188tv chip use the 8188eu driver.

So you should first check which chip your USB WiFi adapter use. You can use
  1. lsusb
Copy the Code
to roughly identify it.

For now three images we have released, the RP and CB image could use the 8192 driver serial chip, the Android image could use the 8188eu driver serial chip.

I have 2 USB Wi-Fi dongles that work out of the box with the Raspberry Pi.

1) Ralink RT5370
2) D-Link DWA-121 (8188CUS)

Neither work on any image on the Banana Pi. Any thoughts on when the 8188CUS driver will be available for either you Android or Raspbian images please?

Thanks

8188CUS is working on RP for BP and CP for BP image now, I have tested it many times. Just the android image should use the 8188eu.

Hello,

sorry guys I am not quite sure what the current status of wifi support is.
I have a Netgear USB Stick, which unfortunately refuses to work for me:
Bus 003 Device 002: ID 0846:9041 NetGear, Inc. WNA1000M 802.11bgn [Realtek RTL8188CUS]

I have tried the 8192cu module and also 8818eu module, both will load but no wlan0 interface will come up in ifconfig.
Please any help/advice is much appreciated.
