Here's a good little site that will help you decide which is the best browser for your distro:

http://html5test.com/

Simply put that address in, and it will give you a score out of 555, along with a complete breakdown of which things work and which don't.

FWIW, I just got a score of 512 (but a little bit later only 508 so I'm not sure why there's a difference) with Google Chrome on Vista. However, I must admit I haven't tried it with my Pi distros yet.

It checks for various things such as -
  • Video
  • Audio
  • Parsing rules
  • 2D graphics
  • 3D graphics
  • ....and many more

Also useful to know is that if you're having trouble getting videos to play in You Tube, you can simply go to:

www.youtube.com/html5

and you can either choose your browser's default settings (which are probably not working) or click on 'Request the HTML5 player'.

Not all browsers are supported but it may help you to view the LeMaker videos at:

http://wiki.lemaker.org/Resources

as well as of course many others.

Perhaps someone could do a little bit of testing and research and post here a matrix or table to summarise which browsers work with which distros - that will help the noobs a lot!!!

I have tried this, but only on my R-Pi, and with varying degrees of success. (Firefox aka IceWeasel seemed to do best but it wasn't perfect by any means.)

No sorry, as it says above, not yet, I only found out about the test page today.

And only with the R-Pi for the You Tube player a couple of weeks ago, but didn't do it systematically or record my results.............

Thank you for your reply.

Sorry to bother guys, this seems to be a related thread about youtube playback , i also have a YouTube playback problem would some one of you help me fix it or give me a solution? When I try downloading YouTube videos with VLC downloader it say vlc is unable to open the mrl. I don't know why and in this article (http://www.videoconverterfactory.com/tips/vlc-unable-mrl.html) as you can see, it mentions I have to try a third-party converter to fix it. But i do not really wish to convert any video formats since YouTube is in MP4 which has the best compatibility . Do you guys have other ways which can fix the playback error?

Thanks, it's useful!
