Our Dear Users,
We are so sorry that the reorganization of LeMaker forum that brought so much inconvenience to all of our dear users.
We are trying to make the forum more user friendly and update it to a new platform. Because the former platform adopts a very old forum ActiveX which resulted in wasting so much time to maintain it every now and then. So , we made a tough decision to change it into a brandnew one. But unfortunately we don’t have enough experience in developing website and caused so many complaints so far.
We are doing our best to make the LeMaker forum more reasonable and user friendly. We hope that our users could give us suggestions to make it better. LeMaker team will 24h standby to make it better.
We are looking forward to your kindly understanding for the inconvenience brought to you these days.

ActiveX? Are you kidding?

Sorry folks, but if you are hiding forum contents and are destroying old URL schemes (without implementing approriate URL rewrite rules that create 301/302 status codes so search engines will update the contents of this site automagically and internal links to other posts work as well) you simply destroy valuable contents mostly contributed by us as user base. This is unacceptable.

It's understandable that you want to push us to the new products you will launch tomorrow. But if you're doing it this way you will end up with new products and no users at all afterwards (no lessons learned from the whole trademark shebang?)

If you want to switch and be modern - go for:

DISCOURSE the forum

Really "great". If they've already problems maintaining their actual forum and nginx configuration (which is capable of simple URL rewrite stuff) then they won't be able to transfer all the contents that are present here in this forum today (but unaccessible since a week due to some dumb decisions by the forum admins).

This is the real problem regarding Banana Pi/Pro support:

- internal links don't work any longer (check the 2 internal links in this post for example: both end up in silly error messages "No input file specified."

- external search engine's indexes point now to invalid URLs: Search for example for "script.bin av out fex2bin" on this site: All links to threads are invalid and show the silly message Plug-in does not exist or has been closed and the links to LeMaker's wiki point to deleted pages: http://wiki.lemaker.org/Kernel_drivers_porting_and_configuration

This is the status quo regarding support stuff we as a community collected here. They f*cked it up completely. Anyone trying to solve problems can not rely any longer on the knowledge ressources available here since the contents cannot be accessed due to dumb forum manipulations. If you change the way dynamic URLs are constructed you have to supply fallback mechanisms (URL rewrite -- this is the most basic stuff anyone serving a forum has to cope with). If you start over with a new forum engine and don't transfer the contents of the former forum in a way that the contents are accessible afterwards then all is lost. And this is where we are right now

I would suggest to bring back the old forum, at least temporary.
It would be the best way to save the URLs both internal and in search engines content (it's not too late )
Should the Url scheme not stay as it was then Url rewriting from the old url scheme to the new one should be introduced when switching to the new platform.

And if they would decide to make the forum more useable then they also should think about creating URLs that are search engine and 'archive' friendly. And exclude the CSS they use from robots.txt.

Even if you try to preserve some contents using archive.org for example since they refuse the CSS to be indexed/archived it looks absolutely crappy: http://web.archive.org/web/20150 ... rg/forum-174-1.html

...

Well, they could have set it back to the old structure and we use it as a library, read only.

And start over with DISCOURSE

Well, they could have set it back to the old structure and we use it as a library, read only.

And  ...

But it seems they simply don't care or are already away. Anyone else curious about this new product launch the day before yesterday that links to http://www.lemaker.org/thread-15579-1-1.html?

Also the Wiki contents: http://wiki.lemaker.org/Main_Page

They deleted stuff (deletion is the same as moving wiki pages around without supplying a redirect page at the old location so search engine results will still point to contents and not empty/deleted pages) and simply don't care.

Now when they're announcing their new SoCs (see Wiki above currently not even filled with stubs but 'product names') then it's over with Banana Pi/Pro: https://www.linaro.org/news/lina ... unity-boards-group/

Dear admin,

1) The new forum is terrible. Why on earth use an obsolete ActiveX based product?

2) The "new product" icon on the main lemaker page is password protected for "special friends". HUH? I could understand that *before* the jun.19-21 fair, but not after

3) Activity in the forums has been non-existent, with lemaker not answering questions

4) there has been no updates in the Raspbian images in far too long

Will you still be making and supporting Banana Pi and Banana Pro boards, or are you abandoning them in favour of the 96boards.org boards?

fyi, phBBB is an easy to install forum package, it is what I use.
